When to Book Your Bridal Makeup Artist

For a November to February wedding in Mumbai, book your makeup artist four to six months ahead. Outside peak season, six to eight weeks is usually enough. The trial is best done three to four weeks before the date, not earlier.

Six months out: check availability
This is when peak-season dates start going. If your wedding falls between November and February, this is the point to enquire.
Send three things: your date, your function time and your venue. Those determine availability, what time makeup needs to start, and what time the artist leaves. Sending only the date means a second exchange before anything can be confirmed.
Ask for one all-in figure at this stage covering makeup, hairstyling, draping, the trial and travel. It is much easier to compare artists now than after you have emotionally committed to one.

Secure the date with an advance. This is also when to book your other functions if you want the same artist across the wedding week.
Booking haldi, sangeet, engagement and the wedding day together is worth doing in one conversation, it avoids a scheduling conflict later and lets the artist plan the week.
If you are getting married outside peak season, six to eight weeks ahead is generally sufficient and there is no advantage to booking a year out.

Two to three months out: start skin preparation
Skin prep in the weeks before matters more than anything done on the wedding morning.
A consistent routine over four to six weeks gives the artist a better surface to work on. This is also the window for any treatments you are considering, not later.
Do not introduce new products in the final two weeks. A reaction three days before the wedding is a genuine risk and an entirely avoidable one.

This is the right window. Earlier and your skin may change; later and there is no time to adjust.
Bring your outfit or a photograph of it, your jewellery, and any reference images. The trial is where you find out that your foundation shade shifts under tungsten lighting, or that your chosen eye look disappears at middle distance.
Do the trial with the hairstyle you intend to wear, not just the makeup. The two interact, particularly with a nath, a veil or a heavy maang tikka.
Avoid facials in the week before both the trial and the wedding, sensitised skin is harder to work with than untreated skin.

The final week and the morning itself
Confirm timings, share the venue's getting-ready room details, and stop experimenting.
Reconfirm the start time against your muhurat. For a 9am ceremony, makeup usually starts around 5:30am with the artist arriving 30–45 minutes before that.
Tell the artist about the getting-ready room — lighting, power points, lift access. These sound trivial and they decide whether the morning runs smoothly.
On the morning: no heavy moisturiser immediately before the artist arrives, and eat something. A three-hour session on an empty stomach is a bad idea on a long day.
